About Remi’s Purpose

Our Founding

Remi’s Purpose, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded to provide financial assistance and intervention support to family and friends of departed loved ones. We help families negotiate and cover final arrangements and expenses, including but not limited to funeral costs, caskets, memorials, internments, and cremation services.

Why We Started

It was June 6, 2019, when our tragic nightmare began. Our daughter, Remi Joan Cowan, was only 16 weeks old. She was perfect in every way, pure and innocent, yet she was tragically removed from our lives while in the care of a babysitter. Though we clung to our faith and hope in the Lord, Remi’s body temperature continued to fall, her organs began to fail, and a scan showed there was no brain activity. Remi was pronounced dead at 10:21 a.m. on June 7, 2019, due to cardiac arrest resulting from cerebral hypoxia (lack of oxygen). Her death is believed to be the result of asphyxiation.

If I had known my sweet Remi would leave this world so soon, I would have kissed her more, told her I loved her more, and held her more. I will never have the chance to watch her sit, roll, crawl, walk, or celebrate birthdays. I am living every parent’s nightmare.

Sitting by Remi’s grave, I wept and asked, “What is my purpose for this life?” I walked around the cemetery reading names and scriptures on monuments. I noticed many temporary markers in a children’s section and the faded dates on these markers—some old, some recent, some nearly unreadable. I felt a deep pull: every life deserves a proper, lasting honor.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” — Colossians 3:23–24 (NIV)

That moment of grief and reflection—mixed with gratitude for the generosity shown to our family—became the beginning of Remi’s Purpose. We would use Remi’s short life as a reason to bring compassion and practical help to families who face loss and the burden of final expenses.

The Need We Saw

Funeral and memorial costs are an unexpected and heavy burden for many families. Not all communities, agencies, or states provide enough help, and in some tragic cases, the deceased are not properly honored. After our loss we learned how limited available assistance can be, and how many families struggle alone to pay for services that give dignity to a departed loved one.

Remi’s Purpose exists to fill this gap—providing timely financial help and intervention support so families can give their loved ones the respectful farewell they deserve.

Our Mission

To honor lives with dignity by providing financial assistance and practical support to families and friends arranging funerals, burials, cremations, and memorial services.

A Note from the Founder

My struggle after losing Remi has been profound and lasting. It has also opened my eyes to new purpose. While grief is a deeply personal journey, it is a little lighter when shared. Remi’s Purpose is our way to share that light—helping others carry the cost of saying goodbye and honoring lives with dignity.
